Who’s on Twitter?

Twitter has an interesting demographic ripple that goes against the trend among Internet use in general, according to a new study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

The survey found that black adults are more likely to use Twitter than white or Latino ones. That goes against the general universe of online use, in which whites are more heavily represented on the Internet.

Here are the numbers from the Pew survey, which are based on February surveys.

The other key finding: The people who are on Twitter are really on it.

Although general Twitter use is ticking up (15 percent in February vs. 13 percent in May 2011), the change from a year ago is within the survey’s margin of error. However, the number of people using Twitter regularly has jumped. Check it out:
