After live-tweeting an open heart surgery back in February, Houston’s Memorial Hermann hospital has one-upped themselves this morning by live-tweeting a brain surgery from their @HoustonHospital account on Twitter.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Dong Kim performed the surgery while a team of hospital staff posted live updates to Twitter (and even Pinterest) documenting the entire process through photo and video updates.
Live tweeting surgeries has become a bit of a trend recently as hospitals test new approaches to using social media to educate the public about these procedures.
As Dr. Kim told Mashable, “People are very anxious and want to know what goes on in a brain surgery like this.”
What do you think about these new uses of Twitter? Does live-tweeting surgeries appeal to you or does it raise more questions than it answers? Leave a comment and let us know!
